SUMMARY

Role

Cinematographer

Intention (SMART Goal)

By March 2nd, as part of team 4, I will explore the use of space by intentionally looking at deep and flat space and will do this by following tutorials on youtube and reading through The Visual Story, and will have created scenes with intentional lighting and intentional focus for my production project.

PRE-PRODUCTION – INQUIRY

Leader(s) in the Field / Exemplary Work(s)

Trent Opaloch

Cinematographer of Avengers Endgame.

Avengers Endgame was a highly ranked movie due to the amazing visuals. This is due to Trent Opaloch and I am wanting to study everything he did to film this.

Training Source(s)

The Visual Story, and Youtube tutorials.

Space:
Creating Deep Space:
1. Emphasize longitudinal planes, avoiding frontal planes because they’re flat.
2. Stage objects perpendicular to plane
3. Move camera
4. Wide angle lens.

Creating Flat space:
1. Eliminate Perspective
2. Stage objects parallel to plane
3. Remove relative camera movement (dolly or crane for movement)
4. Let objects blur.

PRODUCTION – ACTION

The (FILM, SOUND, or GAME Creation)

Skills Commentary

I was the cinematographer of the film. I made sure that focus was always clear and focused on the subject, and I made sure I created visual space with the black. background in Bryces shots, and showing the table and the back of Caseys head in Bryces shots to show that they are at the same table.

POST-PRODUCTION – REFLECTION

21st Century Skills

Ways of Thinking (Creativity, Innovation, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving)

Had to adjust around the Koug Tv equipment since most of it was in our way of filming, and so I had to angle Bryce and Casey to where they block the objects off, and I decided to get the back of Casey’s head in Bryces shots to where I can create visual space.

Ways of Working (Communication & Collaboration)

Worked with screenwriter to see how I can make the shots fit the emotions that were intended.

Worked with the sound designer to make sure we sync up the video and audio together, by starting our recordings at the same time

Collaborated with the editor to label all of the files and select the final shots for him so that it makes the job easier.

Collaborated with the director to see how the shots looked and if there was any lighting/angle changes that would look better.

Tools for Working (Info & Media Literacy)

Trello, Camera, lights

Ways of Living in the World (Life & Career)

Working together in a group is used almost anywhere in any job, collaborating with different roles and positions helps you understand and be more versatile.

Reactions to the Final Version

Everybody that commented liked our film, said it was funny and a good idea with the coloring black and white, and also liked the fact that we put part of the back of Casey’s head in the shots with Bryce to create space, and also the black background.

“Sound was off sync but it was light hearted and fun overall.” One of the advisors

Many of our classmates said they liked our story line, camera angles, the black and white coloring we added, and the overall theme of the film.”

Self-Evaluation of Final Version

I thought everything went better than planned, and although we had audio problems it was still a good film in my opinion.

What I Learned and Problems I Solved

I learned the importance of space and the importance of angles of the subject.
